Sarcas-mom
I can be pretty sarcastic sometimes and Sathish does not think it is funny when I extend it to the kids. But hey they are my kids and they know exactly when I am being sarcastic :-). Some instances-
S & S (they like talking to me ONLY when I have just entered the bathroom) : Amma, what are you doing ?
Me : Umm..I am having my breakfast.
(All I can hear are giggles).
S and S, are deeply engrossed in fighting with each other and I am going mad. So I raise my voice and shout "Would you like me to give some kitchen knives with which you can fight each other?". They are stumped for a minute and then start laughing. Phew..the situation is diffused for that moment.
I am asking Shraddha to put her dirty socks for washing. In her sweetest-I -don't-know kind of voice she asks me "Amma, where should I put it ?" I think for a second and tell her " The MIXIE ?". Pat comes the reply from her "Okay ..the washing machine right ? ". Right, you got it.
It could be either of the kids, but this dialogue comes up frequently when they are really angry with me. "Why should I listen to you ? I don't have to do what you say ?" I do not get ruffled at all. I simply tell them " Oh no..You have to do exactly as I say, because I am a dictator." Then ofcourse I have sit and explain the meaning of a dictator to Shraddha.

:) I am a sarcastic mom too. The kids are quite used to asking - Why do I have to eat green vegetables? and getting the response - Because I am an evil mother and I want to torture you. It's great for kids to know that their parents are individuals with their own way of talking and also for them to not be treated like china, no?

Ranjani I have not suggested kitchen knives, though I give them the idea to pick the two cricket bats lying in the closets and finish off the game with one big shot.
I am liking your mommy-ism :)

MM, yes I am who I am with the kids too ! As you can see, Sathish is freaking out my with my "Knives" comment. So I did clarify one day to the kids that I was joking, just to assuage Sathish :-))
Vibha ..that's a good one too ! Thanks :-)

Ranj - both posts were really fun to read! :) I too do the sarcastic thing once in a while with KB. Esp for T.V. If he asks me, "please mamma, can I watch one more episode of Scooby Doo?" I will tell him...actually I prefer you watch till dinner time (during lunch). He does not like it at all when I talk like that. He just shouts "MAMMA!!!".

Lovely post. Don't we all do it at one point? The other day i was heard telling my daughter (who did not want to come home from her play) Ok please keep playing till you want to. And then in a minute she was home. Sometimes only that works...

Just yesterday we were discussing Gandhiji, and A was saying, "Gandhiji asked his followers to make their own cloth and not wear ready made clothes made by the British." I was nodding, and said,"Yes, he also would tell them to put their shoes, clothes and bag in its place and put away all books after finishing their homework," smiling away!
