Summer of 2012

The summer vacation is drawing to a close today evening and we are all gearing up for the new school year from tomorrow. I can't believe that the nearly 2.5 months of vacation has passed by so soon ! This was one of the best summer vacations, where I had to listen to "Amma, I am feeling bored"  the least from the kids :-).

The first month was spent by the kids just lazing around in the house, running in and out of friends' houses, playing in the hot sun, books as companions to spend the quiet afternoons and just an hour of TV time everyday.

Then came our two week England trip, which was eagerly anticipated by all of us. We had a wonderful time there with my brother's family, a couple of close friends and visiting the lovely places. Country side, University town, Coastal area and ofcourse  the bustling city of London - we got to experience the magic of each of these places, even if it was for a short period. Soaking in the beauty and life at each of these different places, was a very rewarding experience. The book lovers that we are, no trip is complete without a visit to the local bookstore. We got some interesting book stuff from UK.

From WaterStones - "50 things to spot in London" a set of around 50 flash cards about the various tourist spots of London, with lovely illustrations of the places, a brief write up and two cards on the history of London. It is perfect for kids to flip through and reminisce about the places visited.
From WaterMark book shop at the Kings Cross station - London Sketchbook, a book that captured Sathish's attention and is full of lovely water colour illustrations.
From British Museum - How the Olympics came to be, a newly released book by the museum, right on time for the London Olympics!

The rest of the vacation after we came back, was spent with grandparents who came and stayed with us for a while. The kids had a great time with their thatha and patti around ! I have to adjust again to the "frenzied morning hours" school routine after two months of relaxed working in the house. It seems as tough as it is for the kids to get back to their normal routine.

As the madness begins from tomorrow I hope I enjoy every moment of that too, in the days to come !
